Social Care and Communities

One of the biggest issues in today’s society is the fact that we are all living longer.  Agencia has been heavily involved in helping social care and health organisations identify how services need to change to take account of the rising numbers of older people.  Not only are there more people living longer, but their needs and aspirations are also different from previous generations, with a far greater emphasis on independence and self-directed care.

Agencia’s social care and communities team has:

• Led major public consultations for a number of local councils on proposals for change in service design, (including closure of residential homes) to provide more individually focussed solutions in the future;
• Developed new solutions for the care of older people (including those with mental health problems), bringing service users, carers and staff together to design local services for local people;
• In particular, we have helped organisations to respond to the National Dementia Strategy, particularly in the area of personalisation;
• Brought providers together across social care and health to integrate services into seamless care pathways able to respond flexibly to meet individual needs. E.g. Intermediate care and reablement services.

The big question is not “How can we provide more of the same for a greater number of people?”, but rather, “How do we best maintain a level of health and well being among communities that allows everyone who can to continue to lead their own life as they would want to for as long as possible."  Too often in the past, institutional care has been the line of first response, rather than the avenue of last resort, and this has sometimes not been in the best interests of those needing help.  Agencia has been working with local authorities and health services to change mind sets as well as service delivery.
