Agencia’s Active Recovery team unites community through Jo Cox inspired Big Lunch
Agencia’s Active Recovery team organised a Big lunch event that was inspired by the late MP, Jo Cox as part of The Great Get Together weekend of community celebrations. This was the latest in a succession of steps that the Active Recovery team have taken towards building a united local community in Scunthorpe.
The Great Get Together was inspired by the late MP Jo Cox’s belief that we have far more in common than that which divides us. Active Recovery’s first Big Lunch took place on June 18 at the Detox Club above Frodingham Road pharmacy and spilled out into the neighbouring Sheffield Street.
The Great Get Together marked the one year anniversary since the tragic death of Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox, who was murdered on June 16, 2016.
Since the beginning of the year, the Jo Cox Foundation has teamed up with The Big Lunch to make The Great Get Together – the biggest event of its kind since the Diamond Jubilee.
Over 100,000 events took place nationally. Helen Kirk, of Active Recovery said:
“the event held on Sunday welcomed all members of the community, with various members of local organisations taking part, helping to deliver an array of food, drink and fun activities for the whole family, including a Father’s day raffle and bracelet making for the children. The response from the community has been amazing. Everyone has given their time and made donations. The whole community came together and everyone was made to feel welcome. We encouraged people to just promote who they are, where they are, and what they’re doing in the community. The aim was to just brighten the community up for the day.”
Agencia’s Active Recovery Service provides support to registered drug users as well as those at risk of addiction to prescribed and over-the-counter painkillers.
