Agencia appointed to help Humberside Criminal Justice Board speed up justice
Improving the efficiency of the public sector is a key thrust of government policy and the use of Lean and Six Sigma as a means of driving out unnecessary costs and improving the quality of services is rapidly developing in public sector agencies. Agencia is keen to support this work and is developing its capability to deliver such efficiency projects.
Building upon their previous experience of Lean projects, three Agencia staff are currently being trained to Lean Six Sigma black belt level – the recognised industry standard for leading high level projects.
To help them achieve this level, Agencia is delivering a project with Humberside Criminal Justice Board (HCJB) to ‘speed up the delivery of justice.’ The summer riots demonstrated how quickly offenders could be brought to justice, yet it is not uncommon for the process to take up to six months for guilty plea cases. The HCJB project aims to identify how this time can be shortened, whether there are opportunities to reinvest resources in operational service delivery, and how the quality of services to victims, witnesses and staff working within criminal justice agencies can be improved.
Steve Pitts, Agencia’s UK Justice Sector lead said “we aim to complete this important project early in the New Year and expect that many of the findings will be transferable to criminal justice agencies elsewhere and to other public and private sector organisations”.
